The main purpose of an interview, whether phone or face to face, is to obtain information about the candidate which would enable the hiring official to make a decision regarding a suitable job fit. The candidate should have a thorough knowledge of his/her capabilities, skills and potential. The more you know about yourself, the better prepared you will be. At right are a few sample questions that will help in evaluating yourself prior to an interview.
  1. What have you learned from each of your jobs? Which job did you like most? Why?
  2. What kind of an employee are you?
  3. On your last performance evaluation, what did your boss criticize you for?
  4. How do you normally handle criticism?
  5. What do like most about your job?
  6. When you are supervising people, how do you motivate them?
  7. What have you learned from your boss?
  8. Do you consider yourself a team player? Describe your style as a team player.
  9. Would you describe yourself to be a risk taker or someone who plays it safe?
  10. What kinds of decisions are most difficult for you?
  11. How do you work under pressure?
  12. What would you consider to be your greatest strength?
  13. How do you handle change?
  14. What would your colleagues say about you?
  15. Get correct spelling of names and addresses for follow up letters.
